Helping Children Feel Safe

At BlankIT, we are committed to responsible business that also supports the community. That’s why we’re really proud to share something a little different from our usual updates, and it’s a project that’s very close to our hearts.
We recently had the opportunity to fund The Safe Steps Book, a safeguarding resource that has been designed to help primary school children cope with some of the trickier parts of growing up. And we made sure that those books went straight into the hands of the pupils at Gladstone Primary Academy.

What is the Safe Steps Book?
The Safe Steps Book is a colourful, child-friendly guide packed with useful information on important topics. It covers:
Bullying - what it looks like (physical, verbal, social and online), how to spot it and what to do about it
Mental health - helping kids understand their feelings and recognise when they might need support from a trusted adult
Road safety - practical tips for staying safe when walking, cycling or travelling by car
Nutrition and exercise - why looking after your body is important and how to make it fun
Internet safety - how to stay safe when online, including keeping personal information private and knowing when something doesn’t feel right
The environment - how young people can make a difference through recycling and reducing waste
This is the kind of resource that covers the topics that schools try to talk about but don’t always have time to go into the level of detail that’s required. And it’s written in a plain, approachable language so that children can easily understand and absorb the information.
Why was getting involved so important to BlankIT?
Safeguarding children is not only the responsibility of schools but also of the entire community, so when the opportunity to fund the books came up, we jumped at the chance because we love to support our local community, and we wanted to help to make a difference.
Bullying in particular impacts far too many children, and the Safe Steps Book goes beyond telling kids that bullying is bad because it provides them with the language to describe what’s going on and the reassurance that they’re not alone. Here at BlankIT, we feel that kind of empowerment is extremely important and something that we want to support.
Proud to Play Our Part
We may be a business, but at the heart of it, we’re people too! As people, we understand that our job must have meaning beyond the day-to-day life of running a business and funding resources like the Safe Steps Book is one of the ways we try to put that into practice.
If you’re a school, charity or organisation and want to make the Safe Steps Book accessible to children, we’d encourage you to explore it because it’s a thoughtful and informative resource that can help in a variety of ways.
And if you’d like to know more about BlankIT and the kind of projects we get involved in beyond our day-to-day work, feel free to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
